Members Staircase Heritage Handrail
Project scope : detailed design + manufacture + installation
The Houses of Parliament commissioned the design, manufacture and installation of a new prestigious heritage handrail to the external perimeter of the members staircase, designed and engineered in a heritage form to replicate the existing handrail located on the internal perimeter of the same staircase.
The design included a combination of heritage cast iron wall brackets and newel posts, carbon steel core rails and traditional oak timber handrail with french polish stained to contract specification. To minimise the duration of site works the entire staircase was scanned using 3D digital survey equipment and an entire staircase mock-up was built off-site to allow the handrail to be trial built. This significantly minimised the duration of site works during the installation phase.
