Palace of Westminster, Westminster Hall

West Staircase Heritage Handrail

Project scope : detailed design + manufacture + installation

The Palace of Westminster commissioned the design, manufacture and installation of a new prestigious heritage handrail to the west staircase of Westminster Hall, designed and engineered in a heritage form. The design included a combination of heritage cast iron wall brackets, carbon steel core rails and traditional oak timber handrail, french polish stained to contract specification.

To minimise the duration of site works the staircase was scanned using 3D digital survey equipment and a 1:1 scale staircase mock-up was built off-site to allow the handrail to be trial built. This minimised the duration of site works during the installation phase.
