Louis Vuitton double helix lift shaft frame
Double Helix Lift Shaft Frame + associated Curved Glass Glazing Panels
Project scope : detailed design + manufacture + installation
Louis Vuitton’s Townhouse store-in-store in Selfridges was opened with a unique rotating circular glass elevator which effortlessly connected 3 floors of Louis Vuitton Collections. The rotating elevator was contained in a glazed double helix lift shaft frame, with the helix framing components manufactured from high strength steel. The project to design, manufacture and install these double helix high strength steel framing components and associated curved glass glazing panels was one of the most technically challenging projects undertaken.
The detailed design demanded tight control of manufacturing tolerances to guarantee the successful interface between glass, steel components and elevator equipment, as well as accommodating the live loading of the elevator equipment during it’s unusual rotating operation.
