Heritage Gate & Railing
Project scope : detailed design + manufacture + installation
This heritage gate and railing measured 5m long x 3m tall, weighing in excess of 1 tonne, and manufactured from pure iron (otherwise known as wrought iron), being a material of composition 99.8% Iron (chemical symbol Fe). This pure/wrought iron material is softer than modern day steels, but because it has no or very low carbon content it is much more resistant to corrosion, making the material particular durable and therefore suitable for heritage gates and railings.
The detailing and design adopted joint connections that minimised welding and instead recreated traditional mortice and tenon joints.
