Jersey balustrading
Private Residence : Staircase Wave Balustrading
Project scope : detailed design + manufacture + installation
Inspired by one of the greatest Architects in British history, Sir John Soane (1753-1837), this elegant ‘wave’ balustrading was installed to an elliptical stairwell in a private residence in Jersey and extended over four floors from basement to second floor, consisting of over 400 individual wave balusters with over 100 different baluster variations to capture the complex shape and sweeps of the balustrading.
A 3D digital survey was undertaken to capture the entire stairwell geometry and the wave balustrading was painstakingly modelled accordingly. A series of complex wave jigs were manufactured to allow the balusters to be carefully factory forged to shape by hand.
